  Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania present:\n\nChallenges in
  Tropical Disease Control Efforts with Dr. Piero Olliaro\n\nFor over 20
  years\, Dr. Piero L. Olliaro has played key roles in the development\,
  implementation\, and evaluation of new interventions for malaria\,
  tuberculosis\, leishmaniasis and a number of other parasitic diseases. In
  particular\, he coordinated the studies that lead to the adoption of
  artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs) as the new first-line
  treatment for malaria. In his current position\, Piero manages an
  international portfolio of research for helminths and other neglected
  tropical diseases at the UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Programme on
  Research and Training in Tropical Diseases based in Geneva where he lives
